Young Person's Steering Group

We are committed to being a user-led service and make sure that we're offering the service that people need.  We run a Young Person's Steering Group every other month to make sure that young people have their say.

Members help decide the sessions and activities that we do, fill out funding applications and decide where the money's spent, take part in fun team building activities such as going to Alton Towers and other social activities and make really good friends.

What it’s like to be a part of the steering group…

I have found that being a member of the young person’s steering group within First Steps has not only helped develop my confidence but it has also enhanced my communication skills and increased my ability to make decisions.  Being a part of the steering group is like being the part of a team, each meeting I attend is worthwhile as I always come away feeling like I have made a positive contribution. Each member of the steering group is valued equally and their opinions are always considered and taken into account. Personally I always feel welcomed when attending the steering group and I know that my given opinions on the First Steps service are valued.
