Support Groups

MONDAY

We run an Arts session from 6-7.30pm. You do not need to be an artist or even that confident with arts, but willing to have a go and learn some new ways to express yourself.

TUESDAY

We run a Creative Music Workshop from 6-7.30pm.  Music is all about having fun and experimenting with new and sometimes "unique" instruments. Within the session you shall be using your bodies and your surroundings to help create music. These workshops aren’t designed to be a music lesson, you don’t have to have experience with an instrument or sing. Its all about having fun and making a lot of noise! This is a 10 Week course, you need commit to attending every session. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

WEDNESDAY

We run Fairytale Yoga classes from 5.15-6pm. Fairytale Yoga is magical, fun and totally interactive story-style adventures for children of all ages incorporating yoga moves.

We have support groups for young people (HYPED) on a Wednesday between 6pm and 8pm. The first hour covers a topic or activity, and the rest of the time is for socialising or having a chat with staff or volunteers. We also run positive activities which give you the chance to have some fun and learn new ways of coping with your eating disorder.

THURSDAY

We run a Creative Art Workshop from 2-4pm. These will be Therapeutic Art Groups covering areas such as exploring your identity by using creative materials. We will also explore the effects of colour on mood and emotions, and how you can make positive changes by the effective use of colour.  No previous "Art" skills are needed and the sessions will be aimed at a beginners level. This is a 10 Week course, you need commit to attending every session. Please book early to avoid disappointment.

We run free Yoga classes from 5.45-6.30pm. These sessions are of a very low intensity aimed at beginners of all ages. The sessions utilize relaxation and guided imagery to aid anxiety, stress and sleep deprivation. Sessions are not aimed at increasing body muscle mass and losing weight. Limited places allocated on a first come first served basis.

A group for people of all ages (EDGE) meets EVERY Thursday from 7pm until 9pm. Families and friends are welcome to go along to get support from other people in the same situation and to learn about the illness from other sufferers at varying degrees of recovery. On the second Thursday of each month, the first hour of the session will be based around how to support parents and carers.

FRIDAY

On the last Friday of the month we run a coffee morning from 10.30-12. This is open to anyone and is a chance to come and socialise with like minded people and find out more about First Steps along with a cup of tea and a sit down!

SATURDAY

The Dramatherapy sessions run from 10-12 and run for 10 weeks at a time. Dramatherapy is aimed at clients who find regular talking therapies such as counselling, psychotherapy and CBT difficult. Dramatherapy offers a different form of expression alternative to talking. We use drama, dance, music and art to explore our feelings and emotions within a safe environment. Often we will use a variety of objects, toys, art materials and musical instruments as a metaphor for our feelings to help provide a distance for traumatic experiences, memories and emotions.
